My Morning Story is hosting a writing contest
(members only, free to register at Mymorningstory.com)
Entry deadline is May 31st, winners announced on June 15th.
Here are the rules:
Because of the amount of projected submissions, we will only accept 2 stories per member on My Morning Story. Please take into consideration that many of our writers write multiple stories a week. For these reasons please *mark* your stories with the word “CONTEST SUBMISSION.” This way, me and my colleagues can go through the stack of contest submissions, and post one or two daily on the site for the next 15 days.
Your entry must be 1,000 words or less, with a minimum of 300 words.
The theme is: 2012
The story can be just about anything, Drama, horror, sci-fi etc… But must revolve around the year 2012.
(no non-fiction, true stories)
You don’t have to keep it clean, but keep swear words to a minimum. Entries with excessive adult content will be thrown out, as I want this contest rated PG13. The winner will be posted June 1st and will receive a My Morning Story Ceramic Mug as well as a My Morning Story customized t-shirt. The T-shirt although, has not been designed yet – can and will show that you are Number 1 in our book
Feel free to submit your entries today, and feel free to ask for feedback for any of your writings.
Thank you
My Morning Story
PS: Do not hesitate to ask any questions below. Most of you know me by now and you know I will return an answer to you within hours.

When you say revolve around 2012, do you mean that the story has to talk about 2012 and something that may happen, or the story has to actually take place in that year? I’m just a tad bit confused. Because you said that it cannot be a true story, so I’m wondering because it cannot be true it if hasn’t happened yet. Let me know, thanks.
I was hoping some people would ask some questions about this. Cause I know its a bit vague.
2012 hasn’t happened yet so it can’t be a true story. However, if you have a true story you want to modify a bit and put it 2 years into the future, thats ok. Just make sure that somewhere on your work you express the year is 2012.
you don’t have to pretend like the Mayan calender is going to come to fruition or anything like that; but I think it would be neat to get some peoples perspectives about what is happening in the world in 2012.
You bring up a good question about; talking about the year 2012 or actually happening in that year. I think you can go either route. I personally didn’t think of *talking about 2012* when I made up the theme, but I don’t see why something like that wouldn’t be interesting.
The main goal of this is to force all the writers to do some brainstorming. A lot of our writers write true stories, or stories that are very close to the truth. This kinda forces you to think outside of todays date.
I personally don’t know if I actually answered the question
but let me know. I’m here.
I just want to make sure I’m getting all this right. No more than a thousand words? So basically one page? What happens if I go over by say 200 words? I’m just tryn not to break any more rules than I normally do.
No worries. Treat it more like “keeping it in the ball park of that range” Kinda like in college, where they say 3 pages.. You can turn in 3 and a half, or even 4. Just make sure its good…
And one more thing that I forgot…. do I get style points, and or, contest points for a truly fantastic vocal delivery on the MYMS phone line??
I would love to get some people calling in and telling their stories via audio! It would be quite awesome..
But, I don’t think I can give the stories extra bonus points. I will however love you forever.
You know even though this works very well, and you do get back very fast, we should really have instant messaging… and spell check everywhere. My mind has too much on itself to be bothered with spelling. That is, of coarse, I’m reading a novel and highlighting typos.
Well, I am going through each story right now and adding images. Hopefully soon we will have the illustrator doing more of this job.. But anywho.
Instant messaging, I don’t think is too far off. Hopefully soon! BTW, I love that you comment a lot, I think it helps the newbies feel more comftorable.
Im an artist! says it right in my profile. My style might be a bit strange but perhaps you might like it. Im willing to work for free, if not some credit to my portfolio. I could mock up some images of whatever you would like (though I dont do computers. I make art the old way.)
lol, brb ha! gotta do this lost podcast. We will talk more about this
Oh man. A lot of ideas are going through my head about this. I’m assuming only one entry per person?
nope, I will accept 2 stories per member.
hey buddy….. its the 16th now, and im just waiting to know
who wins?
Read the mass email I sent out
and you can find out who!
You know at the top of this page it says the winner is announced on june 15th, and then later on it says that the winner will be posted on june 1st……
Originally it was June 1st but because I hada few submissions around June 1st I moved it to the 15th
hello, i just want to ask, if what’s the meaning of $20$ below my name on my profile? I’m curious about it, the number increases everytime i comment to someone..what does it mean? Thanks!
