As the general tortured him
his vision began to fade,
but as the man’s fate grew dim
his character was unphased.
.
Despite each blow that he endured
his heart was no less cold,
his loyalty was in no way blurred
and so he remained bold
.
Supporting strong his noble act
were memories of his love,
who across the sea held the pact
he would not be sent above.
.
But now the life of this youth
was on the verge of descent,
if only he knew of the truth
comporable to his torment.
.
All along his fate was clear
his courage was a shame,
if only through walls of steel he could hear
the unfaithful cadence of his old bedframe.

Loved this piece! Very smooth reading it.
Ah, the unknown soldier. Very nicely written — should really fix that ‘comporable’, though
Thanks! And, ah! I can’t believe I missed that after looking at it so many times, haha
